A Thoughtful Place: The Writing is on the Wall

11.08.2011

The Writing is on the Wall

I have been inspired lately by the hand written look. I am sure you have seen things like this.  So I decided I wanted to go for it myself with a rather blank and boring wall in our home. I also chose a wall because it’s not much of a commitment. I told myself that if I didn’t love it, I could repaint the wall in 15 minutes. So here is a peek what I ended up with!

IMG_5153

I have to say that I am pretty darn excited about it. The wall is connected to our kitchen and you see it when you walk down our stairs. It has always been a challenge because of all of the silly light switches, thermostat, etc.

IMG_5090

If you tackle this yourself, it’s really so so easy. I think the whole wall took me about 35 minutes.

IMG_5094IMG_5095

And then get busy with this little number {$10 from Michael’s . . . cheaper with a coupon}

IMG_5167

IMG_5103

I realized it’s much easier if you write above your line and just see it as a guide. That way when you erase the pencil lines later, you are not in danger of hurting your paint job. {I still have some erasing to do . . .life as a mommy called!}

IMG_5097

The words are actually the lyrics to the song that my husband and I danced to at our wedding for our first dance by Joshua Kadison {Beautiful In My Eyes}

You’re my peace of mind in this crazy world.

You’re everything I’ve tried to find.

My only prayer is that you realize you’ll always be

beautiful in my eyes.

The world will turn and the seasons will change,

and all the lessons we will learn will be beautiful and strange.

And the passing years will show that you will always grow

more beautiful in my eyes.

The cloud cover came just as I was snapping away. So much for natural light. But I just love the feeling I have when I see the wall. And something tells me it will be quite the conversation piece. What about you? Have you written on your walls lately? {I better make it clear to my kids that this is not a normal occurrence!}.

  61. I just found you through Just A Girl blog. I just thought I would share a simple trick....Instead of using a pencil to draw out your lines, use a water color pencil close to the color of your walls or the color you are painting. Then you can just wipe it away with a damp paper towel or it will disappear into the paint. This is the way I did my bedroom wall.

    ReplyDelete
  62. AWESOME! I totally want to do this, so easy peasy but great impact.

  67. This is not only unique but beautiful. Another idea: instead of using a pencil for the lines, use chalk. Then when the written words are dry, all you have to do is wash the wall down and the chalk will come off easily...much easier than pencil. Just thought you might want to know.

  80. I absolutely LOVE the writing on the wall! I keep coming bac to look at it. I have to find a wall in my own home and do something like this. I recently started a blog to document the changes we are making to our 1996 split level. It is called sweetparrishplace.blogspot.com. Maybe one day you can check it out. In very early stages, and so much work to do on this house. But it is my joy and obsession to whip this house into shape!

As soon as I saw that first picture up there, I started crying. That Joshua Kadison song was playing as we had our last dinner as a family before my parents divorced in 1996. It's such a beautiful song, you should have it in your beautiful home. Lizy xx
