A Thoughtful Place: Fall Mantel {2012}

Fall Mantel {2012}

Can you believe fall is already peeking around the corner? While stores are fine with showing off their pumpkins and scarecrows, I am still easing into the season. It is still quite warm in Southern California so I opted to create a mantel that is full of texture and natural elements. I am ready to bring on the warm feel and sense of fall without going over the top. I also fell in love with a a starburst mirror and found that it was just the addition I wanted for our living room. I layered our mirrors for a fun effect and am thrilled with how it came out. And a huge shout out to the hubby who helped with a million projects this weekend.  Here is our beginning of fall mantel!

This mirror was only $25 {on sale} from Hobby Lobby. I scooped it up and just waited for its destination to occur to me. I am so happy that I went with this idea. I used 3M velcro pieces to attach it to the larger mirror. It really was a very simple process. Those strips hold up to 16 pounds so this lightweight mirror isn’t going anywhere. Another perk is that the velcro strips can be removed from both mirrors should I ever want to switch things up.

I added a piece of wood to bring in the rustic and natural element.

I love how the brass cornered frames are reflected in the mirror. You can see how I made those here.

The rope vases were a DIY project that I did here.

I couldn’t resist the photo of the cute brass giraffe that looks like it is grazing in the greenery as you look through the mirror.

These fresh stems were cut from my gardenia bush. I like that they stay green and fresh once cut for quite a period of time.

Here’s a peek into the whole space from the dining room so you can see how all of the colors and textures come into play.

What about you? Have you begun to get your fall on? It’s really fun to be breaking out the warmer décor and seeing fall make it’s way into our home. I have been one busy mama and have many projects to reveal to you this week. Hope you’ll drop by. It includes a downstairs bathroom makeover! Enjoy your day.

  4. Love the old books tied with twine. It ties in so well with the natural and connecting it with the inside, sitting in a big chair in front of the fireplace, reading an old book. I'm all for the Nooks and iPad and have both, but there's something about a book, esp when it's old! :)

  23. I love how this is a subtle nod to fall. I live just north of San Diego and while I'm itching to decorate for fall, it just doesn't feel right when it's 80 degrees outside! Your mantle is a soft approach to early fall decorating for those of us who are living in summer weather still.

  25. I love that you added a touch of green! Typically everyone keeps to muted fall colors, but the touch of green really freshens the design up. Great job! PS. Yes I am commenting on all of your old posts... sorry : )
